Who Should Apply:

Participation and attendance at the Symposium is by application and acceptance only. We encourage Masters, Doctoral, Medical, Post-doctoral level womxn from historically underrepresented groups, and femme, trans-womxn and non-binary persons, in STEM fields to apply.

Requirements:

  • A completed application submitted by September 6th.

  • Applicants will be required to submit an abstract of their work and accepted participants are required to present their work at the symposium.

  • Presentation options include a poster presentation, picture presentation, or a job talk.

    • Poster Presentation - Attendees will present their research a printed poster. Posters will receive faculty feedback. Push pins and display boards will be provided. Poster printing can be reimbursed, please keep your receipts

      • Poster Guidelines

        • Recommended size: 36”(H) x 48”(W)

        • Keep text to a minimum

        • Ensure text is in large font

        • Use graphs, charts, and/or tables

    • Picture Presentation - Attendees will be given five minutes to present their research using 10 -20 PowerPoint slides that include images only. Slides should not contain typed text or bullet points. This is similar to a data blitz without words and is modeled after the PechaKucha style of presenting.

    • Job Talk (Job Market Ready Attendees ONLY) - A job talk is a presentation of research to prospective employers. Talks should include research competencies and long term research plans. It can be similar to the dissertation defense. Prepare for approximately 20 minutes. 

  • Attendees MUST complete one of the required elements above to be eligible for travel reimbursement.

How to Apply:

Fill out all required fields in this application by 11:59pm on September 6, 2019. Applicants will be notified of their final application status via email by September 13, 2019 and will need to register by September 20, 2019. Accepted participants may receive a reimbursement of up to $150 to defray travel expenses.
